These free printable Christmas light templates are perfect for a ton of different Christmas activities and make a great Christmas craft idea for kids or other fun winter crafts.

There is something magical about Christmas lights.

And they inspire a lot of Christmas time creativity.

Ideas for Using the Christmas Light Templates

Kids Christmas crafts: These are perfect for a ton of different kids crafts.

You can grab the big light bulb template and cut it out.

Then let them decorate it with different craft materials.

Let them cover it with tissue paper, glitter, pom poms.

It’s a fun way to let their creativity fly.

Christmas decorations: You can also use these as a Christmas light stencil.

Then trace out the light bulb outline onto different colors of craft paper. I like the idea of using that foam glitter paper.

Then string them together on a piece of cord and hang them up as a decorative garland.

Coloring pages: Since these are blank outlines, you can also use them as coloring pages.

Or combine them with our other Christmas printable templates and turn them into a collage to color.

Ideas for the Classroom

You can also use our Christmas light printable for fun classroom activities.

You can grab the small Christmas lights and write a letter into each one, then hang them up as an alphabet garland.

Have the kids write sight words or holiday vocabulary on the bulbs, then read each word before adding it to the display.

Then hang them up around the room as Christmas decorations and review vocabulary.

Use the big Christmas light template to make ornaments on a paper Christmas tree!

Have the kids decorate their Christmas light bulbs and write their name on them, then add them to the big tree. For a Christmas light name craft, write one letter on each bulb and arrange the letters in order on a strip of paper. You can also number the bulbs for counting practice or repeat a two- or three-color pattern.

Printing Tips for Your Christmas Light Templates

Use regular printer paper for coloring or lightweight collages. Cardstock works well for a reusable Christmas light stencil, hanging garlands, or ornaments that need to hold their shape.

Open the file from your email and choose only the pages you want in your printer settings. Check the print preview before printing: use Fit to printable area if an outline is being clipped. To make smaller Christmas light cutouts, reduce the print scale and try one test page first.

Color the bulbs before cutting them out so little hands have more paper to hold. The large, simple outline gives beginners room to decorate; an adult can help with the narrow base and curved edges.

How to Make a Paper Christmas Light Garland

1. Choose a bulb size, then print and color your templates, or trace the outlines onto colored paper.
2. Cut around each bulb. Try a red-and-green pattern, rainbow colors, or a pastel string of lights.
3. Lay the bulbs face down in a row and tape yarn or string across the backs of their bases. Leave extra string at each end for hanging.
4. Hang your paper garland along a wall or classroom display. Keep paper decorations separate from real lights, heaters, and flames.

For a classroom door or window display, attach the paper bulbs individually with removable tape instead of stringing them together.
