How to Make a Leprechaun Trap
Our printable trap comes with a 4 page PDF. Start by grabbing the pdf file and downloading it.
This project works best when cut out on very thick paper, like cardstock.
Step 1: Print out the Template
When you grab the printable, it will come with 4 pages. The first page is the instructions, so it’s optional to print.
If you want to save ink, just print the last 3 pages. It includes the leprechaun house and roof, a rainbow and clouds, and a page with gold coins, shamrocks, a ladder and a leprechaun!
Step 2: Cut out the House
Star by cutting out the leprechaun house and roof.
Step 3: Assemble the House
Score the edges of the house and start folding it together.
Glue it together long the tabs to create a 3D house base.
Make sure to punch holes into the house in the two areas indicated. If you don’t have a hole punch, cutting a small X in the circle will allow you to insert your q-tip without creating a hole.
Step 4: Make the Roof
This leprechaun trap works because of this moveable roof. To make the roof moveable, turn it over to the white side.
Attach the Q-tip in the very center of roof and tape it down.
Step 5: Attach the Roof
Attach the roof to the top of the leprechaun trap by inserting the fluffy part of the Q-tip through each hole in the top of the house.
Don’t glue or tape it down, or the trap won’t work.
Step 6: Cut out the Accents
Cut out the rest of the pieces from the other two pages.
Step 7: Attach the Rainbow
Once all the pieces are cut out, decorate your rainbow with a gold coin and a shamrock like our photo shown above.
Then put glue in the spots indicated on the cloud, and attach to the leprechaun trap.
Of course, the trap wouldn’t be complete with out a few gold coins in it!
Step 8: Finish the Trap
Finish adding any decorations to your trap that your heart desires. Make sure to add the ladder so your leprechaun can climb up onto the roof!
How the Trap Works
The trap works by having the curious leprechaun climb up the ladder. I mean, the house says FREE GOLD. And what leprechaun can resist the lure of adding more gold to his stash?
As he steps onto the roof, the roof slips, revealing a secret trap door! And the leprechaun comes tumbling down into the house. Then he’s trapped!
Or at least, that’s the goal. Leprechauns are super tricky, and to catch a leprechaun is not easy! Of course, finger’s crossed you’ll get to trap one and get your three wishes!
