Common Card Games

Go Fish: This classic game is perfect for kids as young as 3 or 4. To play, deal each player 7 cards face down. The rest of the deck becomes the draw pile.

Players take turns asking another player for a specific card (for example, “Do you have any 9s?”). If the player has the requested card, they must hand it over. If they don’t have the card, they say “Go fish!” and the asker must draw a card from the draw pile.

When the player has all 4 of one kind, they get to put those cards face up in front of them.

Then they draw 5 more cards from the pile. The game keeps going until all cards are gone from the draw pile, and all cards are placed face up in sets of 4. Those with the most sets wins.

War: This is a simple yet fun game that can be played with two or more players.

To start, each player is dealt half of the deck face-down. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the table. Each player then flips over their top card at the same time.

The player with the highest card takes all of the cards and sets them aside.

In case of a tie, war is declared. Each player puts three more cards face-down and then flips over their fourth card. The highest card wins all of the cards!

The rounds keep going until one person owns all the cards.

You could also use these for pretend play for younger kids.
