How to Play Pin the Tail on the Donkey

Playing the classic party game is super easy.

The object of the game is to pin the tail on the donkey without being able to see where you're putting it. The player who gets the closest to the target wins!

To set up, simply print out the game board and hang it on a wall or door. Then, cut out the tails and blindfold each player in turn.

Give each child a paper tail with their name on it. Have the children stand at a distance from the wall.

Now, it's time to play! The player who is blindfolded will take a turn walking toward the game board.

One at a time, each child takes turns blindfolding themselves and trying to stick their tail as close to the donkey’s rear end as possible.

Once they're within reach, they'll attempt to pin their tail as close to the target as possible.

If they succeed, they'll win a prize! If not, they can try again or pass their turn to the next player.

Our Printable Pin the Tail on the Donkey Game

Our printable pin the tail game features a page of a cute donkey with no tail.

We provided two different versions, one with the words "Pin the tail on the Donkey" and a blank one that doesn't include the words.

How to Use the Printable

Once you download the printable you can either print it out on regular paper or on some cardstock. I suggest cardstock if you can find some, or you can laminate the donkey and tail pieces.

Once you have all the tails cut out, you can attach velcro pieces to make the game replayable. Or use double-sided tape to stick the tail to the donkey.

You could use thumbtacks, but I don't really like this idea as they can fall and kids can step on them.
