How to Use the Christmas Scavenger Hunt Game Printable

For this scavenger hunt all you have to do is print out the sheet for each person or group playing.

I like to make an individual copy for each kid, as they love coloring in the Christmas items as they find them.

These are the 16 Christmas scavenger hunt items pictured on the sheet:

  • Wreath
  • Santa hat
  • Present
  • Stocking
  • Candy Cane
  • Christmas Pudding
  • Reindeer
  • Holly
  • Snowman
  • Snow Flake
  • Gingerbread Man
  • Bauble
  • Bell
  • Star
  • Elf
  • Christmas Tree

There are also some bonus items for them to find. They include finding something gold, something shiny, something noisy and something moving.

Ask children to explain what they found for each bonus category—there can be more than one answer! The sheet also asks, “Can you hear a Christmas song?” Listen together while you explore.

When to Use the Scavenger Hunt

Take the sheet Christmas shopping or on a walk to see holiday displays. A reindeer decoration, snowman ornament, or picture of a gingerbread man can count—you’re spotting the designs, not collecting the objects. Stop for a holiday treat and compare what everyone has found.

Indoor Christmas Scavenger Hunt

You can also play an indoor Christmas scavenger hunt at home or at a Christmas party. Check which items are available first, then agree on what counts. Skip anything that isn’t there, or set a goal of finding a smaller number of items instead of completing the whole sheet.

Tips for Preschoolers and Groups

For a Christmas scavenger hunt for preschoolers, look at the pictures together and name a few familiar items before starting. An adult or older child can read the labels and bonus prompts while younger children point to their finds and color the matching pictures.

For a group, give each child or team a copy and agree on the search area and finishing point. You can work together to fill one sheet or compare everyone’s finds afterward. Let the outing or your group’s attention span set the length of the game.

You can also offer a prize for those who reach a certain number of items!

After all, what is a Christmas scavenger hunt without a fun prize to try for?

I suggest something small or useful like a special holiday mug they can use during the Christmas season or a cute little unique ornament to put on the tree that represents just them.

They’ll remember it as a fun event and some good family bonding that will surely get them in the holiday spirit.
