Paper Plate Sheep (With Free Printable Template)

Make a fluffy paper plate sheep with construction paper, cotton batting or cotton balls, and a paper plate. This easy sheep craft is fun for farm-animal activities, spring crafting, or Easter.

Kids can build the sheep’s face, add its legs, and cover the plate with soft cotton wool. Younger children can help with gluing while an adult prepares the smaller pieces.

With just a few minutes of cutting and gluing, you can create an entire flock of paper plate lambs, making this a perfect spring craft for kids or for a cute Easter craft.

Our template includes two sizes for the sheep head. So next time, I think we’ll grab some mini plates and make a few paper plate lambs to go with the sheep mama.

Materials

Paper plate: A plain paper plate makes the body. Before gluing, place the head and legs against your plate to check how they fit.

Colored craft paper: Or construction paper. We used black, white and pink.

Cotton: We used cotton batting, but cotton balls work too. Pull the batting into small fluffy pieces, or gently loosen the cotton balls before gluing.

You’ll also need some basic craft supplies like:

• Scissors
• Craft glue
• Pencil
• Black marker or pen

How to Make a Paper Plate Sheep

Print the craft pieces on regular paper, then cut them out to use as tracing patterns. Trace the head and legs onto black construction paper, the eyes onto white paper, and the cheeks and inner ears onto pink paper. Cut out the traced shapes, helping younger children with the smaller pieces.

Use a black marker to draw the pupils on the white eyes. You can also use googly eyes if you prefer.

Then start assembling the sheep’s face by attaching the eyes to the top part of the sheep’s head.

Then attach the inner ear pieces to the sheep’s ears.

Glue a pink cheek onto each side of the face, then draw on a mouth with your marker.

Spread craft glue over a small section of the paper plate and gently press cotton onto it. Work around the plate until it is covered, keeping the cotton fluffy rather than pressing it flat.

Then glue the sheep’s finished head onto the top of the paper plate like shown below.

Finally, glue the two legs to the bottom of the plate. Leave your paper plate sheep flat until the glue has dried before lifting it or putting it on display.

Materials

Instructions

1. Print and cut out all the template pieces. Trace onto colored paper, and cut out.
2. Color in pupils on sheep eyes.
3. Assemble face by adding eyes, cheeks and ear pieces to the sheep's head.
4. Draw on mouth.
5. Grab the paper plate and glue down cotton, covering it completely.
6. Attach head to top half of paper plate.
7. Attach legs to bottom half.
8. Leave the sheep flat until the glue dries before lifting or displaying it.

Notes

Younger children may need help cutting out the small pieces. The estimated making time does not include drying; leave the craft flat until the glue has dried.
