Today we’ve got an adorable and yet simple bug craft for kids!

Here we’ll show you how to make a simple dragonfly craft out of popsicle sticks, pom-poms and a little bit of glitter paper.

  • Popsicle stick
  • Pompoms

How to Make your Preschooler Dragonfly Craft

Here we will show you step by step the easiest way to make this dragonfly craft.

This is a great project for preschoolers and makes super cute dragonfly toys to play with after. 

Our little ones love zipping around the room playing with their flying dragonfly’s pretending they are on a fun buggy adventure. 

Step 1: Starting your Dragonfly

To start your dragonfly craft, grab 1 popsicle stick, 1 of the large pompoms and 5 or 6 of your smaller pompoms. 

Apply a small drop of glue onto one side of your popsicle stick toward the top where your dragonfly’s head will be.

Step 2: Make the Dragonfly Head

Place the large pompom to the glued area of your popsicle stick to form the dragonfly’s head.

Step 3: Start Assembling the Dragonfly’s Body

Apply another drop of glue under the large pompom to start assembling the rest of your dragonfly’s body.

Step 4: Craft your Dragonfly Wings

Grab your glitter paper and start tracing out the dragonfly wings on it. Use scissors to cut out the traced wings.

Step 5: Glue on Your Dragonfly Wings

Attach the glitter wing shape glitter side up on the popsicle stick right below the small pompom.

Step 6: Form the Rest of the Dragonfly’s Body

Now that your wings are attached, start gluing more small pompoms under your other pompoms down the popsicle stick.

This will form the rest of your dragonfly’s colorful body.

Step 7: Add Eyes to your Dragonfly Craft

Once you’ve finished attaching the pompoms to your dragonfly’s body, glue on googly eyes to the large pompom to complete your dragonfly’s head.

Dragonfly Craft for Preschoolers

These adorable little dragonfly's are a great craft for you and your preschooler to do together. These make adorable little bugs your kids will love to play with after. They also look great as room decor!

Materials

  • Popsicle stick
  • Colorful Pompoms
  • Googly eyes
  • Glitter paper
  • Craft glue

Tools

  • Pencil
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Grab your Popsicle stick a large pompom and at least 5 small pompoms. Apply a drop of glue on one side of your Popsicle stick, at the top where your dragonfly's head will be.
  2. Place the large pompom on the glued part of the popsicle stick.
  3. Apply more glue under the large pompom and then place a small pompom on it to start the body of your dragonfly.
  4. Grab your glitter paper and trace dragonfly wings on it. Use scissors to cut out the traced wings.
  5. Attach the glitter wings on the popsicle stick, right below the small pompom.
  6. Now glue more small pompoms on the popsicle stick to finish off your dragonfly's body. Your pompoms will be glued over your dragonfly's wings.
  7. Once you’ve finished your dragonfly's body, glue googly eyes to the large pompom to complete the pompom dragonfly craft. 
  8. Now you and your preschooler can play with your little dragonflys!
