Preschool Nativity Craft (Using Paper Shape Cutouts) + Free Template

This Preschool Nativity Craft is the perfect way for little children to create their own nativity scene this year. It’s an excellent way to talk about the nativity while working on listening skills and creativity skills as well!

When it comes to Christmas crafts, having a nativity scene is an important one. If you don’t already have one in your house, why not let the kids make their very own instead?

We love making Christmas crafts with the kids. It’s so fun to get into the holiday spirit! And like many of our other easy crafts for kids, we include a printable template to make it super easy.

Materials

Nativity template – You can print the template out at the end of the post.

Colored craft papers: We used green, red, brown, yellow, blue, black, and peach.

Pencil – to trace the template.

You’ll also need to have simple supplies like:

  • Craft glue
  • scissors

Instructions

Start by printing out the nativity craft template. Then trace the cut pieces onto colored paper. You should end up with pieces that look like the following picture.

The template includes the following patterns- baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, a star, and a manger.

Grab the Joseph and Mary figure template cut out. Put the half-circle (which is the beard) onto the bottom of the head to make the Joseph figure. Attach the other half-circle cutout (which is the hair) on the top part of the head to make the Mary figure.

Once done, put the head patterns onto the triangle cutouts (which are the dresses).

Grab the arch cutouts (which is the scarf) and attach them to the backside of the heads of both Mary and Joseph.

Put the small round circle on one side of the small oval shape (you’re making baby Jesus). Once done, put the small triangle onto the bottom side of the rectangle to make the manger.

Put the baby Jesus on top of the manger.

Glue all the pieces onto a piece of paper to complete the nativity scene.

See how cute and simple this nativity is for the kids to make? It’s a great way to for them to work on fine motor skills while also learning about the story of Jesus’s birth.

As you’re working through the craft, you can talk and communicate about the project and the story of Jesus.
