Materials
Paper Bag Astronaut Template: You can grab it down below for free!
Paper Bag: We used a standard small lunch bag from Walmart.
Colored Craft Papers: For the astronaut suit, helmet, and accessories.
Pencil: For tracing the template.
Scissors: To carefully cut out the astronaut pieces.
Craft Glue: To assemble the astronaut.
Sharpies: For outlining details like facial features and buttons.
The Craft
This paper bag astronaut craft is an interactive and creative activity where kids can:
✔ Cut and assemble their own astronaut puppet using colored craft papers.
✔ Decorate and personalize their astronaut’s suit and helmet.
✔ Use the puppet for imaginative storytelling and space-themed play!
Instructions
Trace & Cut – Print the free astronaut template, trace the patterns on colored craft papers, and cut them out.
Assemble the Head – Attach the hair cutout to the astronaut’s head. Then, glue on the eyes, draw the nose and mouth with a Sharpie or black marker.
Make the control panel – Attach the small round cutout to the strip cutout, then draw colorful buttons on the small square for the astronaut’s control panel.
Prepare the Helmet – Attach the head pattern onto the helmet cutout and add the antenna on either side. Outline the helmet with a Sharpie.
Create the Astronaut Suit – Measure and cut out a piece of paper to cover either side of the selected paper bag. This will be the body part (base) of the astronaut suit.
Prepare the Paper Bag – Flatten the bottom of the paper bag so it forms the top part of the puppet. Cut out a piece of paper to cover the bag, creating the astronaut’s body.
Attach the Shoes – Glue the shoe cutouts to the bottom edge of the astronaut’s suit. Then attach the control panel to the front of the astronaut suit.
Assemble the Puppet – Attach the astronaut’s head to the flattened bottom of the paper bag, then glue the body section below it.
Let It Dry – Allow the glue to set, and your paper bag astronaut is ready for play!
