How to Make the Astronaut Printable Craft

1. Choose and print a page. Pick the precolored astronaut for a quick cut-and-paste activity, or the coloring version if your child wants to design the suit.
2. Color before cutting. If you are using the coloring page, decorate the helmet, suit, gloves, and boots while all the pieces are still on the sheet.
3. Cut out the six pieces. Follow the dashed guides around each piece. Keep the helmet and body whole; the lines inside them are details, not extra cutting lines.
4. Arrange your astronaut. Place the body in the middle, the helmet above it, one arm on each side, and the two boots below. Compare the arrangement with the small example on the printable.
5. Overlap and glue. Tuck the narrow ends of the arms and the tops of the legs behind the body. Overlap the helmet slightly over the top of the body, then glue the pieces in place. If you are making a scene, glue the arranged pieces directly onto your background paper.
6. Let it dry and display. Add stars, a planet, or a rocket to your background, or leave the astronaut as a simple paper cutout.

Top Tips

Set out all six pieces before gluing. A quick layout check helps kids spot a missing boot or an upside-down arm while everything is easy to move.

Use just a little glue at the joins. A small overlap is enough to connect the pieces. Too much liquid glue can wrinkle regular printer paper.

Make cutting manageable. For beginners, an adult can separate the page into smaller sections first or precut the helmet. Children can still choose the colors, arrange the parts, and do the gluing.

Let the pose vary. The corner example is a helpful guide, but the arms can tilt outward or point down. Try a few positions before sticking them in place.

Ways to Use the Craft

Make a space scene. Mount the astronaut on dark paper and add crayon stars or paper planets. Leave space for children to name their astronaut and describe the mission.

Printing Tips

The PDF is formatted for US Letter paper, 8.5 × 11 inches. Print in portrait orientation and choose just the page you want.

Check the print preview before printing. Use “Fit” or “Fit to printable area” if any of the border or pieces are being clipped. Keep the page proportions unchanged so the pieces stay in proportion.

Use color printing for the precolored page. For the coloring version, grayscale printing works well; the small example astronaut will print in shades of gray. Print a test page before preparing a full classroom set.
