Instructions
First, start by figuring out which colors of paper you’ll want to use for you puppet. I suggest grabbing two different shades of green, along with orange, pink, black and yellow. Then grab a skin-toned color of paper for your leprechaun’s face and hands.
Print out the template and trace and cut out the head and hand pieces onto the skin tone-colored paper. Trace and cut out the rest of the pieces on colored papers of your choice. We made the hat and sleeves green, the hat’s band black, the buckle yellow and the inner ears and nose pink.
Then cut small slits on the buckle piece to allow the hat belt to go through it. Attach the ear pieces to the head and attach the sleeve pieces and buttons to the sleeves as shown above.
Finish making your leprechaun face and arms but attaching the hands to his sleeves.
Attach the hat belt to the hat. Then the hair and beard pattern onto the head pieces.
Attach the nose and use a marker or pen to draw on your leprechaun puppet’s face.
Now we are going to make the puppets body by creating a paper bag shape out of a piece of paper.
We grabbed a green piece of craft paper that’s 16 x 10 inches.
You can tape together two pieces of paper if you don’t have one that’s big enough.
You’re going to fold the paper in half long wise, but keeping a thin flap on the side to fold over like shown above.
Apply a thin strip of glue along the flap and glue it down to the open side of the folded paper, making both sides closed.
Fold the bottom edge up 3 inches from the bottom.
Open the folded areas end.
Form two corners and flatten the 3 inch part with the top part of the current paper creating a neat opening.
You should now have 2 flaps. Fold the top flap inward toward the center of your folds.
Fold the bottom flap inwards and overlap the previous fold. Glue the flap down to secure the bottom.
Notice the 2 square parts on the bottom side of the current pattern. Use them as guideline to fold the 2 sides.
Then, unfold the last 2 side folds.
Fold in the middle creases of the sides and flatten the bottom side to complete the paper bag.
Now you can attach the leprechauns head to the bottom side of the paper bag.
Attach an arm to each side of your puppet to complete your leprechaun!
We wanted to add a little extra decoration to our leprechaun, so we added a little shamrock shape to his hat.
