Painted Spider Rock

Today we have a cute little painted spider rock craft! Since fall is around the corner, we have been having fun with Halloween Crafts. This craft involves using only a few supplies. A rock, some pain, pipe cleaners, a few googly eyes and some glue.

This spider craft is such a fun and easy craft for kids.

To make these painted Rock Spiders you’ll need to grab a few supplies, but if you have a small crafting stash, you may already have most of them at home.

We used a medium sized rock, some black pain, 4 black pipe cleaners and several googly eyes of different sizes. You’ll also need some basic supplies like glue, scissors and a paint brush.

If your helping younger kids make these painted rocks, then it’s safter to go with regular old craft glue.

If your making them yourself or older kids are making them then a hot glue gun with make this go way faster.

Supplies Needed for Painted Spider Rock

  • A good sized rock that fits in the palm of your hand, about 2-3 inches wide
  • Black acrylic paint
  • 4 pipe cleaners (for the spiders legs)
  • 15 to 20 – googly eyes of varying sizes
  • Glue (Or hot glue gun)
  • Mod Podge (optional)

How to Make a Painted Rock Spider

Gather up all the supplies before you start making your painted rock. Use the black paint to paint the entire surface of the rock black.

Once the black paint has dried, you can coat the rock with a coat of Mod Podge to give it a nice shine and protect it from chipping. Make sure to allow it to dry completely before moving to the next step.

This is optional, and your rock spider will still look great regardless.

Next glue the googly eyes to the front and center of the rock mixing up the sizes to give it an uneven, slightly spooky look.

Cute the pipe cleaners in half and bend them about an inch away from the end creating the spider’s knee.

The glue four of the pipe cleaner legs on each side of your spider’s body on the back of the rock.

This adorable painted spider rock is a fun and easy spider craft just about anyone can make. All you need is a good rock, some paint, googly eyes, a few pipe cleaners and some glue!

Materials

  • Large rock
  • Black acrylic paint
  • 4 Pipe cleaners (We used black)
  • 15 to 20 - googly eyes of varying sizes
  • Mod Podge (optional)

Tools

  • Paint Brush
  • Hot Glue Gun with Glue

Instructions

  1. Paint the entire rock black and let dry.
  2. Seal with a coat of Mod Podge to protect the paint on the rock and add shine. This step is totally optional.
  3. Allow to completely dry.
  4. Glue the googly eyes to the front center of the spider rock.
  5. Cut the pipe cleaners in half to use as 8 spider legs.
  6. Bend the pipe cleaners in half and bend each about 1" from the end creating the knee joints for your spider.
  7. Glue four pipe cleaner legs on each side of the back of the spider (rock.)
  8. Enjoy hanging out with your knew spider friend.
