Materials

  • Paper bag bat template: You can grab it down below. Makes this craft super easy to put together.
  • Colored craft papers: Black, pink, white, and any other colors youโ€™d like.
  • Paper bag: Any standard-size paper bag or DIY one from brown craft paper.
  • Scissors: For cutting out the bat parts.
  • Craft glue: To stick everything together.
  • Pencil: To trace the template.
  • Sharpies: For adding details like facial expressions and wing outlines.

The Printable

This craft comes with a printable bat template that includes:

  • Bat head and body base
  • Wings, ears, fangs, and legs
  • Blush patterns and big expressive eyes
    You can print the template on colored paper or plain paper for kids to color in themselves. Or use them to trace out on colored paper.

Instructions

Cut out the template pieces โ€“ Trace the bat patterns onto colored craft paper and cut them out.

Prepare the ears and wings โ€“ Glue the inner ear pieces onto the outer ears and use a sharpie to add details to the wings.

Assemble the legs and wings โ€“ Glue the legs to the bottom of the body base and attach the wings to the sides.

Make the bat’s face โ€“ Color the eyes and glue them onto the head piece.

Attach the ears, fangs, and blush โ€“ Stick the ears on top, then glue on the fangs and blush circles. Use a sharpie to draw the mouth.

Prepare the paper bag โ€“ Use a store-bought paper bag or make one from brown craft paper.

Attach the batโ€™s head and body โ€“ Glue the head to the bottom of the paper bag (flap side), then glue the body base below it.

Final touch โ€“ Trim the bag if needed, and let the glue dry before playing!

You can make your bat black, but it’s also a ton of fun to make bats in all different colors. We also made a purple one, but a dark blue one would be super cute too.
