How to Make the Crayfish Cut and Paste Craft
Start with printing and coloring. Print the version you want. If you chose the coloring sheet, decorate the pieces while they are still on the page. Then cut around the dashed outside guides and keep the small pieces together in a dish or tray.
- Turn the large main body shape to match the sideways crayfish in the corner example. Place the segmented rear section at the wider back end.
- Add the tail fan to the end of the segmented section. Keep the printed legs together with their piece rather than cutting along the inner detail lines.
- Arrange the claws toward the front of the body and position the long antennae so they extend forward. Test the overlaps before applying glue.
- Glue the rear section, tail, claws, and antennae in place, then add the eye. Mount the crayfish on background paper if the narrow pieces need extra support.
Top Tips
Place the antennae in a small tray after cutting; they are easy to lose among scraps. A glue stick gives more control than a large squeeze of liquid glue on these narrow shapes.
Sort the claws, antennae, and rear sections before starting assembly. The finished example is especially useful here: rotate the large body piece to match it before deciding which edges need glue.
Ways to Use the Finished Craft
Ask children to describe the shapes they used: a long curve, a broad claw, and a fan-shaped tail. They can make a rocky water scene with torn paper and position their crayfish among the paper stones.

Printing Tips
Print in portrait orientation and check the preview before printing. Use “Fit” if any parts are being clipped, and keep the page proportions unchanged. Print a single test sheet before making copies for a group.
Choose color printing for the precolored version. Grayscale works for the coloring version; the small colored example will appear in shades of gray. Use the same print settings for all pieces so they stay in proportion.
