How to Make the Vulture Craft
1. Choose and print your template. Open the printable from your email and select the version you want. Print one test page first; use “fit to page” if any edges are clipped.
2. Color before cutting. If you’re using the black-and-white version, decorate the pieces while they are still on the sheet. They’re easier for little hands to hold this way.
3. Cut out the pieces. Follow the outside outlines and keep the pieces together on a tray or sheet of paper. Help younger children with the smaller shapes.
4. Arrange, then glue. Lay out the head, body, and feet before attaching anything. Use the completed vulture photo as a guide, then glue or tape the pieces in place.
5. Let it dry and display it. Leave the vulture flat until the glue has set. Mount it on construction paper or add it to a bird-themed bulletin board.
Tips for Preschool and Classroom Use
- Pre-cut the pieces for children who are not ready for scissors, then let them choose the colors and help with gluing.
- Put one set of pieces on each child’s tray so they don’t get mixed up.
- Use a glue stick or small dots of glue to keep the paper from getting too wet.
- Let children arrange the parts themselves before offering help.
- For a sturdier display, print on cardstock or glue the finished bird onto a backing sheet.
V Is for Vulture and Other Learning Activities
V is for Vulture: Write a large uppercase V and a lowercase v on construction paper. Say “vulture” together, listen for the beginning sound, and glue the finished bird beside the letters. Children who are ready can trace or copy the word underneath.
